John Marshall, Saloon, Ashland, was born in Montreal, Canada, April, 1841. In 1855 he went to Detroit, Mich., and in 1859 to the copper mines on Lake Superior. In 1871 he opened a shoe shop in Ashland, and in 1877 began in his present business. In 1870 he married Miss Jennie Hockridge, of St. Paul, formerly of Hoboken, N.J. They have had four children – Marie B., John F. and Joe U. and William H., deceased. Mr. Marshall and wife belong to the Catholic Church.
