ERNEST C. VOCELKA 

Director of music in the Elko Grammar Schools, Elko, Nevada, since 1934. The Elko Grammar Schools has an outstanding music department, its musical organizations being considered as outstanding and among the most noteworthy in the State. Born in Ashland, Wisconsin, educated in the public schools of Ashland, graduating from Northland College, Ashland, Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Received training in the music department of Northland College and in actual participation in music organizations of Ashland. Played first violin in the Ashland Symphony Orchestra and was solo clarinetist as well as drum major of the Municipal Band. Studied under Sigvart J. Steen, former assistant to Dr. F. Mclius Christiansen, the noted composer and director of the famous St. Olaf Choir, which is world renowned. I also was a member of the Northland College a capella Choir which is directed by Sigvart J. Steen, and has a high reputation in music centers of the East My aim in music is to bring about a love and better understanding of good music to boys and girls of today believing that it will assist in the making of the better citizens of tomorrow. Music is not for the chosen few but for every person living today, for history shows us that music has and will always be a definite and important part in the life of all mankind. It began with the creation of the universe itself, and without rhythm, the most important ingredient in music, all would be confusion in this world of ours.
