Miller, Michael William (1928) ----Source: Marshfield News Herald (Marshfield, Wood County, Wis.) 16 Mar. 1928 Michael William Miller was born in Ashland, September 19, 1893. When he was one year of age his parents moved to Rib Lake, and five years later to this city. His home has been here since. He attended the public schools here. His first position after leaving school was with the Western Union Telegraph Company as a messenger, which he held two years. Then he served a year as baggageman and mailman at the Soo Depot. Next he held a job as telegraph operator at the Soo Line Depot in Portage. Returning to this city, he operated an automatic popcorn wagon, said to have been the first of its kind in the city. He then associated himself with his father, Sam Miller, in the retail and wholesale fruit business, with which he has been identified up to the present. After traveling seven or eight years as a fruit salesman he was promoted to assistant manager. A few years later he opened a branch fruit house in Rhinelander for his company and managed it three years. Returning to Marshfield, he became manager of the storage department of the S. Miller Cold Storage Company, which position he filled in connection with the work of assistant sales manager of the fruit company. In 1925 he opened a branch fruit house in Wausau and managed it a year, following which he resumed his managerial work in the local offices of the two companies. Mr. Miller is the secretary of the Wisconsin and Upper Michigan Fruit Jobbers Association. He has no fraternal associations. Politically, he is a Republican. His hobby is fishing.
