----Smart, Ethel (Marriage – 4 Aug. 1920)

Wendland – Smart

The marriage of Miss Ethel, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Smart of the town of Agenda, to Louis Wendland, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Wendland, town of Agenda, took place at the Lutheran church at Glidden on Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. Cassens performing the marriage ceremony.

The bride was gowned in white beaded georgette crepe and wore a bridal veil and wreath and a string of pearls, a gift from the groom, and carried a shower bouquet of bridal roses and lilies of the valley. The bridesmaids were the Misses Emma Wendland, a sister of the groom, and Arvilla Schluenz who wore pink and blue organdy and carried pink and white roses and sweet peas. The bridegroom was attended by Walter Tank and Frank Wartgow.

Following the ceremony a wedding dinner was served to three hundred guests at the home of the bride’s parents. The decorations were carried out in pink and white.

The young couple is well known. Miss Ethel was born at Highbridge, her father being superintendent of the Ashland county poor farm at that time. The groom is an energetic young business man having lived here for the past seventeen years. They received many useful gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Wendland will be at home after Nov. 15, at Butternut, Wis.
